Microneedling FAQ: Everything You Need to Know Before Booking

If you've been curious about microneedling but aren't quite sure what to expect, you're not alone. It's one of the treatments I get the most questions about, so I thought I'd answer the ones I hear most often.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a treatment that creates tiny, controlled microchannels in the skin. This process encourages your skin's natural healing response and stimulates collagen production, helping improve the overall health and appearance of your skin over time.

What concerns does microneedling help with?

Microneedling can be a great option if you're looking to improve...

  • Hyperpigmentation and dark marks
  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Overall skin firmness

Does microneedling hurt?

Most clients say it's much more comfortable than they expected. Before we begin, a topical numbing cream is applied to help minimize discomfort. You may feel some vibration or light pressure during the treatment, but most people tolerate it very well.

Is microneedling safe for sensitive skin?

It depends.  Having sensitive skin doesn't automatically mean you aren't a candidate. During your consultation, I'll evaluate your skin barrier, current routine, and skin goals to determine whether microneedling is the best choice or if another treatment would serve your skin better first.

How long is the downtime?

Most people experience redness for 24 to 48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn. Your skin may also feel tight or dry for a few days as it heals.  I'll provide detailed aftercare instructions so you know exactly how to care for your skin during recovery.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends on your goals.  Some clients choose a single treatment for overall skin rejuvenation, while others benefit from a series of three to six treatments for concerns like acne scars or hyperpigmentation.

During your appointment, we'll create a plan that's customized to your skin.

What should I avoid after treatment?

For the first 24 to 48 hours, you'll want to avoid:

  • Direct sun exposure
  • Heavy exercise that causes excessive sweating
  • Swimming pools, hot tubs and saunas
  • Active skincare ingredients like retinoids or exfoliating acids
  • Makeup until your skin has had time to recover

You'll leave with clear aftercare instructions so you know exactly what to use and what to avoid.

Am I a good candidate?

Microneedling isn't the right treatment for everyone, and that's okay.  If I don't believe it's the best option for your skin, I'll always recommend the treatment that is. My goal is never to sell you a service. It's to help you achieve healthy skin with the approach that's most appropriate for your unique concerns.

What if I'm not ready for microneedling?

If you'd like to improve your skin but want to start with something less intensive, the Summer Reset Facial is a wonderful first step.  It focuses on hydration, skin barrier support, and overall skin health while giving us the opportunity to create a long-term plan tailored to your goals.

Ready to take the next step?

Whether you're ready to book microneedling or simply have questions, I'd love to help.  If you're unsure whether it's the right treatment for your skin, reach out or schedule a consultation. Together, we'll decide on the best plan for your skin and your goals.
